Why Byteway

Cloud Calling, Without the
Usual Setup Headaches

No Hardware to Install or Maintain

There’s no on-site PBX box to service, no spare parts to keep in stock. Your phone system lives in the cloud and just works.

No Lock-In Contract

Both plans are flexible and month-to-month, so you’re free to test which one actually fits your call volume.

Australian-Based Support

A Melbourne-based team for account changes, porting, and anything that comes up, not an overseas queue reading a script.

Works From Any Device

Take calls from a desk phone, a laptop softphone, or a mobile app, your business number follows your team, not a physical handset.

Clear, Predictable Rates

Every call type priced upfront, local, mobile, 13/1300, and non-standard, with no vague “call rates apply” fine print.

One Provider for Everything

Cloud calling sits alongside your internet, managed IT and cyber security under one Byteway account, one bill, one team accountable for all of it.

Frequently Asked
Questions

01

Is the price per line or a flat system price?

Pricing is shown as per line, with a 2-line minimum.

02

Do I need to buy any hardware for hosted PBX?

No. Hosted PBX runs entirely in the cloud. You can use existing desk phones, a softphone app on your laptop, or a mobile app, no on-site PBX box required.

03

Why is there a minimum of 2 lines?

Most business cloud phone setups are configured with at least 2 lines as a practical minimum for a functioning small business system.

04

Which plan is cheaper for my business?

It depends on your call volume. Lower call volume, particularly fewer mobile calls, usually suits Standard's per-call rates. Constant calling suits Unlimited's flat rate. A specialist can estimate this against your actual usage.

05

Can I keep my existing business number?

Yes. Byteway ports your existing number as part of setup, so incoming calls continue without interruption.

06

What counts as a "non-standard" call?

Non-standard calls typically include international calls and certain special service numbers, billed on a pay-as-you-go basis outside the plan's standard rates.

07

Why are 13/1300 calls charged the same on both plans?

13 and 1300 numbers are charged at a flat 40c per call on both Standard and Unlimited, since these are typically business or service numbers rather than standard local/mobile calls.

08

Is hosted PBX affected by the PSTN shutdown in Australia?

No. Hosted PBX runs over your internet connection already, so it was never dependent on the copper PSTN network that's now been decommissioned.

09

What happens to my calls if the internet goes down?

Since hosted PBX depends on your internet connection, an outage affects calling. Byteway can configure mobile failover or backup connectivity to keep calls running during an outage.

10

Is there a lock-in contract?

No. Both plans are flexible and month-to-month.

11

Can I switch between Standard and Unlimited later?

Yes. You can move between plans if your call volume changes.

12

Should I choose hosted PBX or on-premise?

Hosted PBX suits most businesses, lower upfront cost, no hardware maintenance, and works from anywhere. On-premise still makes sense for businesses with strict data residency needs or existing hardware investment. See our On-Premise Phone Systems pricing page for the comparison.

13

Can I add more than 2 lines?

Yes. Additional lines can be added beyond the 2-line minimum, priced per line at your chosen plan's rate.
