Why Byteway

Phone Line Plans, Backed by a Team Who Understands
the Hardware Too

No Lock-In Contract

Both plans are flexible, so you’re not stuck in a long-term agreement to test whether Standard or Unlimited suits your business better.

Australian-Based Support

A Melbourne-based team who understands both the line plan and the PBX hardware it’s running on, not two separate providers pointing fingers at each other.

Clear, Predictable Rates

Every call type is priced upfront: local, mobile, 13/1300, and non-standard. No vague “call rates apply” fine print

Built for On-Premise Hardware

These plans are designed specifically to run on your on-premise PBX, correctly configured now that traditional PSTN and ISDN lines are no longer available.

Easy to Compare Against Usage

Two clear plans, easy to weigh against your actual call volume, rather than a confusing tiered structure with hidden thresholds.

One Provider for the Whole System

Line plans, PBX hardware, and IT support managed under one Byteway account, so a call quality issue gets diagnosed against the whole system, not just the phone bill.

Frequently Asked
Questions

01

Why is there a minimum of 2 lines?

Most on-premise business phone setups are configured with at least 2 lines for basic redundancy and call handling, ensuring a single line failure doesn't take your phones down entirely.

02

Does this plan include the PBX hardware?

No. These plans cover line rental and call rates only. PBX hardware, installation and configuration are quoted separately. See our On-Premise Phone System page for hardware and setup details.

03

What counts as a "non-standard" call?

Non-standard calls typically include international calls and certain special service numbers, billed on a pay-as-you-go basis outside the plan's standard rates.

04

Why are 13/1300 calls charged the same on both plans?

13 and 1300 numbers are charged at a flat 40c per call on both Standard and Unlimited, since these are typically business or service numbers rather than standard local/mobile calls.

05

Can my on-premise phone system still work now that PSTN has been shut down?

Yes, but it needs to be configured with SIP trunking over your internet connection rather than a traditional PSTN line, since Australia's copper network has been decommissioned. Byteway handles this migration as part of setup.

06

Can I switch between Standard and Unlimited later?

Yes. You can move between plans if your call volume changes significantly.

07

Do I need a certain type of PBX hardware to use these plans?

Your PBX needs to support SIP trunking to connect to these line plans. Byteway can assess your existing hardware or recommend a compatible setup.

08

Can I add more than 2 lines?

Yes. Additional lines can be added beyond the 2-line minimum, priced per line at your chosen plan's rate.

09

Are there any setup fees?

Setup and hardware costs are quoted separately from the monthly line plan. Ask a specialist for a combined quote covering both.
